The Locomotive Engineering Workshop at Jamalpur (as it was originally known) was established on the
8th of February, 1862. On 15th January 1935, the Jamalpur Workshop along with the entire railway colony
was destroyed by an earth-quake. It took 3 years to rebuild it from scratch. Jamalpur workshop is the only
workshop which manufacture 140T Gottwald design Crane and Jamalpur Jack having capacity of 25T &
35T. The Crane Shop of this workshop has also been entrusted with manufacturing 8-wheeler tower cars
and performing periodic overhauls (POH) of 140T Crane, 8-wheeler tower cars and 4-wheeler tower cars.
